Dr. Amirmasoud Kalantari awarded $3.5 million grant from The Office of Fossil Energy, US Department of Energy (DOE)

Monday, July 1, 2019

Dr. Amirmasoud Kalantari (left) is the Principal Investigator on a newly awarded $3.5 million grant from The Office of Fossil Energy, US Department of Energy (DOE). The goal of the related research is to develop a novel “Smart Microchip Proppants” technology for precision diagnostics of hydraulic fracture networks to improve subsurface characterization, visualization, and diagnostics of unconventional reservoirs in collaboration with UCLA and EOG Resources. The Co-PI on the project is Dr. Shahin Negahban (right).

The technology addresses critical gaps in understanding of unconventional reservoir behavior and optimal well completion strategies to enable more cost-effective unconventional resource recovery.

This grant is in response to the DOE’s Advanced Technologies for Recovery of Unconventional Oil & Gas Resources, Funding announcement opportunity number DE-FOA-0001990.
